India - Flight Disruptions, Mumbai

22 May 2018

Ongoing flight disruptions at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM) are set to continue until at least June 5, as the airport upgrades its Instrument Landing System (ILS) that guides flights on its main runway. BOM handles around 950 flight movements a day, and an estimated 45 flight movements an hour. The system upgrade works have forced airlines to primarily use the secondary runway, which has a lower capacity. Nearly 600 flights were affected at the airport May 20; departing flights were delayed on average by nearly 50 minutes, while arriving flights were delayed by at least 30 minutes.
