Anticipated Air France Strikes

24 Aug 2017

Unionized Air France (AF) cabin crew members have threatened to stage an indefinite nationwide strike from September 1 over wage disputes. The cabin crew strike is in addition to planned action by Air France pilots, who have threatened to walk off the job on September 9-12. Unless the actions are averted, the strikes could prompt delays and cancellations across the Air France network.

Air France usually announces flight cancellations 24-48 hours in advance of the strike. Disruptions could be most pronounced at the airline's hubs in Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Orly (ORY) airports. Short- and medium-haul passenger flights are more likely to be affected by potential cancellations than intercontinental routes. Lingering delays are possible even after the strikes end, as any resulting backlogs are cleared. Passenger processing delays are also possible at airports during the action. Striking workers could stage protests; demonstrators may gather near airport entrances and/or attempt to obstruct traffic on airport access roads.
