Airlines start weighing carry-on luggage

10 Dec 2018

Virgin Australia (VA) and Qantas (QF) will begin weighing hand luggage from 11 December 2018.

Customers travelling on VA domestic services may carry up to two pieces of hand luggage weighing no more than (combined) 7kg. This could be a small bag plus a handbag, laptop bag or suit bag.

Customers travelling on Qantas domestic services may also carry up to two pieces of hand luggage, neither of which can weigh more than 7kg.

From this week, passengers will not be permitted to carry hand luggage that exceeds these allowances on domestic flights. They will be required to check-in their baggage (potentially at an additional cost) or make alternative arrangements for the contents.

For more information please refer to your airline website to verify check-in and hand luggage allowances.
