Turkey - Airport Closure

22 Sep 2017

Istanbul's Ataturk International Airport (IST) reopened late September 21 following the crash-landing of a private jet - a Cessna 650 Citation 7 - at around 1950 on September 21. The aircraft reportedly suffered a malfunction during takeoff and broke apart and caught fire after crashing. Four people aboard the plane - two pilots, one cabin crewmember, and one passenger - were injured in the incident. Both runways at IST are operational, but there are lingering delays as airlines struggle to accommodate backlogs of passengers and cargo.
